Government College of Engineering, Dharmapuri was started in 2013, a fruition of the far reaching vision of Dr.J.Jayalalitha, Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu (vide G.O Ms. No.11, dated 30.1.2013).The institution is one of the Government engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu and is located at the foothills of thickly forested hillocks on a sprawling land area in Chettikarai, Dharmapuri.
The institution, affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, offers Undergraduate courses in the following streams of engineering.
1. Civil Engineering
2. Computer Science and Engineering
3. Electrical and Electronics Engineering
4. Electronics and Communication Engineering
5. Mechanical Engineering
These courses are approved by AICTE ( F.No: Southern /2015/1-2492832711dated 30 April 2015 and F.No. Southern/1-2811454990/2016/EOA ) with an intake of 60 seats in each course every year.
The institution is recognised as a research centre for all departments by Anna University, Chennai (Code No: 2600200).
The existing buildings include a vast, two upper storey block housing the administrative offices, 4 seminar halls, 1 drawing hall, 20 classrooms and 1 tutorial hall, 7 laboratories, a Placement Cell, a Central Library and a First Aid Room. In addition, it also has a large indoor auditorium, a block housing workshops, a 175-room hostel for boys, a 175-room hostel for girls, a Guest House and a residential quarters for the Head of the Institution. The hostels are being expanded to accommodate more students.
Under the guidance of well qualified faculty members, the institution lays great stress on academic excellence and has an excellent academic track of pass percentage from 2013 onwards.
