Green Campus - Saplings Planting
GOVERNMENT COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, DHARMAPURI
GREEN CAMPUS
The college community planted around 50 Saplings in the institution ground in order to make it a green campus. Endemic, tropical, environment friendly and rain bearing plants like Poovarasu, Guava, gooseberry, Pungan etc were carefully selected with a vision that they will survive in any natural calamities like storm and flood which may be expected since the campus is situated in the vicinity of a hill. The aesthetic value of the already beautiful campus in the backdrop of hills is planned for further beautification with the adornment of trees. This venture is a small step extended to mitigate the heat waves produced in this locality. The cluster of trees will very soon give wide canopy, yield fruits, store water from the run off of the adjacent hills, give plenty of oxygen and thus keep the college community energetic mentally and physically, inspire the students’ creativity, provide habitat to a variety of flora and fauna and act as a breeding and sustaining ground to them. This occasion brought the whole community of the college together in planting the saplings with involvement and exuberance.
